Mary Murphy Obituary

A beautiful, strong, giving, intelligent, inspiring, and independent woman, Mary D’Ann Murphy, 74, passed away peacefully and surrounded in love with her children on May 9, 2026, after a battle with dementia.

D’Ann was born in Denver, Colorado, on July 1, 1951, the oldest of five children. She grew up primarily in Colorado, with a brief period spent in Texas. After graduating from St. Mary’s High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1969, she pursued her passion for helping others, earning her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Northern Colorado in 1973.

D’Ann was a talented and dedicated nurse.  She spent her early career at St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver, working in the operating room and labor and delivery. She took great pride in her work and loved the fast-paced challenges of the operating room.

D’Ann married in 1973 and had three children, Andrea, Kimberly, and Mark.  She was an amazing mother who constantly supported, guided, and loved her family. To balance her career with raising three children, she transitioned to a role with the State of Colorado as a Medical Investigator. D’Ann had a rewarding 28 year career as a public servant.  Showing her characteristic determination, D’Ann worked full-time and raised her family while going back to school to earn her Master’s degree in Nursing Administration.

In retirement, D’Ann cherished spending time with her children, her grandchildren, and her dog, Otis. She loved traveling with her daughters and gathering with family and friends. Her family was her greatest joy, and she leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love.

D’Ann is survived by her daughter, Andrea Heckman and grandson Gunner; her daughter Kimberly Campbell and her husband AJ; and her son Mark Murphy with his wife Bryana, and granddaughters, Jamison and Sloane.  D’Ann is also survived by her siblings, Kevin Davis, Carol Irwin, Katherine Davis, and Kyle Davis.

To our mom in heaven, though we can no longer physically see you, we have you by our side and with us always. We are so grateful for the unconditional love and support you always gave us. We will always love and cherish you forever.  You were the best mom in the universe, we are so lucky to have you as our mom.
