Clare Teresa Reynolds made her long awaited journey to be with her lord on August 19, 2022 at the age of 97. Clare was born June 26, 1925 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Charles Joseph and Clara Aquina (O'Brien) Quigley. Her father passed when she was just a year old leaving her mother to raise her and her 4 older brothers. At age 6 Clare was allowed to help her Aunts' small grocery store. From that point every penny she earned until age 18 was taken home to her mother to help the family. This established her life long sense of responsibility, frugality and a hard work ethic. The love of her life, Alfred E. Reynolds, courted her by bringing from his home garden, delicious tomatoes "The size of a saucer." They married on November 18, 1943. The time period was WWII. Alfred and her 4 brothers had all enlisted. She and Alfred soon moved to Pyote, TX Army Air Field-Nicknamed Rattlesnake Bomber Base. That was the birthplace of their 1st child Charles Alfred (Freddy) in October of 1944. After the service they moved to a dairy farm near Sweetwater, Oklahoma. Her work ethic came into play again as her main duty was milking 21 cows every morning and evening. Their 2nd child France Aquina was born in September 1950.
The family began their life in Colorado in 1955, moving to Leadville. Alfred worked at the climax mine. Clare at a dry cleaners. In 1958 they moved to Climax where Clare worked for Leighton's general store until 1968. Then moving to Denver Clare worked in retail clothing with J.C. Penney Co. until her retirement in June 1993. Clare loved crocheting and was a gifted seamstress. A talent she used to supplement their income. Doing alterations became her after retirement job which she did until 2012 when she moved to Canon City. Clare had a big heart and helped family and friends whenever possible. Her catholic religion was a driving force throughout her life. She was a long time parishioner at Notre Dame church in Lakewood and St. Michaels in Canon City.
Clare is survived by daughter Aquina (John) Coulter, daughter in law Joanne Reynolds. Newly found daughter Betsy Dawn King, grandchildren Ted Reynolds, Aquina Rogers, Robert Dyson and Aimee Dyson, many great and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jerome, Leo, Neal, and Shorty, her husband Alfred, son Fred, grandson Freddy Reynolds and granddaughter Desiree Dyson.
Services will be held at August 25th at 10:30 AM at St. Michaels Catholic Church, 10th and College, Canon City. Services entrusted to Harwood Funeral Home. Online condolences at www.HarwoodFunerals.com
